A patient is suing his former nursing home, alleging responsibility for his broken knee and bed sores.
Jimmie Bell filed a lawsuit June 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against Alden Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health Care Inc., alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on May 9, 2014, Bell checked into the Alden Wentworth long-term-care facility, at 201 W. 69th St., Chicago, and at that time the facility knew Bell was at a high risk for falling and developing pressure sores. On March 5, the suits says, Bell was found to have a broken right knee, the result of the defendant's carelessness and negligence.
The suit says the defendant also allowed a sacral bed sore to develop on Bell between May-September 2014, and allowed allowing a right ischeal bed sore to develop between June-December 2014.
Bell had to undergo surgery and hospitalization to repair a broken tibial plateau and a splintered fracture of the metaphysis, the lawsuit states, and debridement to repair the sores.
The suit alleges the plaintiff sustained pain and suffering, a debilitating condition and medical expenses.
Bell seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. He is represented by attorney Richard C. Sklare of Sklare Law Group in Chicago
