A Cook County woman is suing two individuals, alleging wrongful death in a fatal highway accident.

Reyna Santoyo, as special administrator of the estate of Sandro Santoyo, filed a lawsuit July 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against Ramon Vera and Jacqueline Torres, alleging negligence in a 2013 incident.

According to the filing, on July 15, 2013, Sandro Santoyo was driving an automobile southbound on Cicero Avenue near its junction with the Interstate Highway 55 ramp. The suit says Vera, who was operating a motor vehicle belonging to Torres, drove in a southwesterly direction on I-55’s exit ramp in the southbound turn lane, did not make the turn, and instead collided with Santoyo’s vehicle, killing him.

The lawsuit states Vera failed to keep an adequate lookout, operated his vehicle without sufficient brakes, failed to stay on the correct side of the roadway, reduce his speed to avoid an accident, and obey a traffic signal.

Special administrator Reyna Santoyo brings the action for Sandro Santoyo's s three surviving children, whom, the suit says, have sustained grief, loss of their parent’s love and counsel, and pecuniary damages.

Reyna Santoyo seeks damages of more than $50,000 plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorney Hugo A. Ortiz of The Law Offices of Hugo A. Ortiz in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L007180.
