Theater sued over allegedly unlit, unsafe stairs

Cookcountycourt

A woman is suing a theater after falling on stairs that allegedly were slippery and unlit.

Linda Flores filed a lawsuit on July 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against Nederlander Theatrical Corp., doing business as Oriental Theater, at 24 W. Randolph St. in Chicago.

At 1:15 p.m. May 28, 2014, Flores was walking in a theater stairwell that allegedly wasn't well lit, causing her to trip and fall, causing her injury, pain and suffering, and medical expenses.

The lawsuit alleged carelessness and negligence against the theater for failing to: control its premises, properly light the stairs, fix a defective stair step that was slippery, warn the plaintiff of a slipping hazard, inspect its premises, clean the hazard and provide safeguards to falling.

Flores seeks damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limit, plus costs.

The plaintiff is represented by the Ankin Law Office LLC in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case No. 2015L007266.
