A man is suing an area grocery chain, alleging injuries when he tripped in an icy parking lot.

Ronald Johnson filed a lawsuit July 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against Thorntons Inc. and Thorntons 125, alleging negligence and carelessness.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 10, 2014, Johnson was walking in the parking lot of the Thorntons, at 2800 Ogden Ave., Aurora, when he was caused to slip and fall over a series of holes, chipped or broken pavement, and icy ground, causing him injury, pain and suffering and medical expenses.

The suit says Thorntons failed to: warn pedestrians about a dangerous condition, not shovel the parking lot properly, allow an unnatural accumulation of snow and ice to remain, maintain a safe premises, and remove a dangerous condition from its parking lot.

Johnson seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is represented by attorney Daniel A. Klein of Kurasch & Klein in Chicago.
