A customer is suing a Westmont fast-food franchise, alleging it served him food that made him sick.

Leon Schmidt filed a lawsuit July 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against McDonald's Restaurants of Illinois Inc. and McDonald's USA, alleging violations of state and local health codes.

According to the complaint, on July 25, 2013, Schmidt was a customer at the McDonald's at 31 E. 63rd St. in Westmont, when he ingested an allegedly contaminated grilled chicken wrap. As a result, the lawsuit states, he experienced diarrhea, blood in his stool and stomach pain.

The suit says the defendant was careless and negligent for injuring the plaintiff, letting contaminated food be served, and failing to follow food handling policies and state codes.

Schmidt seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is represented by the Law Office of Andrew S. Kryder in Chicago.
