Neglect alleged in case of woman's death in Waterfront Terrace nursing home

Nursinghome

A Cook County woman is suing nursing home Waterfront Terrace for neglect that allegedly led to the death of her mother.

Tanya Hamilton filed suit July 31 in Cook County Circuit Court’s Law Division alleging Waterfront Terrace Associates LLC and Waterfront Terrace Inc. were negligent in caring for her mother, Rita Hamilton, who resided at Waterfront Terrace from March 11 to Oct. 26, 2014.

According to the plaintiff’s claim, Rita Hamilton suffered from bedsores, infections, malnutrition and dehydration during her stay at Waterfront Terrace. The suit says Waterfront Terrace violated the Nursing Home Care Act by neglecting to provide proper supervision, preventative care and treatment for conditions she developed in the nursing home.

Those conditions included pressure sores, ulcers and urinary tract infections. In addition, the suit states that Hamilton was not fed or hydrated properly and that her bodyweight and protein levels were not adequately monitored. The plaintiff claims the negligence led to her mother’s death on Oct. 28, 2014.

Representing Hamilton is attorney Kevin J. Golden of the Chicago firm of Dudley & Lake LLC. The suit seeks damages in excess of $50,000.
