Patient sues doctor, alleging malpractice, sexual battery

A Cook County patient is suing a doctor and his employers, alleging medical malpractice and sexual battery.

Raquel Brown filed a lawsuit Aug. 20, in Cook County Circuit Court against the Housecall Physicians Group of Rockford,H ousecall Physicians Group of Illinois, MD@Home Management and Dr. Charles DeHaan, both individually and as an employee or agent of the other defendants.

According to the complaint, between May 1-Aug. 14, 2013 at the clinic at 1710 Log Cabin Ave., Rockford, DeHaan unlawfully used his position as a doctor to engage in non-consensual touching of the patient’s breasts and genitalia. The suit says the abuse injured Brown's body, causing pain and suffering that will lead to ongoing medical treatment and costs.

DeHaan, the lawsuit states, also prescribed the plaintiff medication in exchange for sexual favors. The suit alleges DeHaan’s employers (the other defendants) failed to investigate prior charges of sexual abuse against patients.

Brown seeks more than $50,000 in damages, plus the costs of litigation. She is represented by attorney Michael J. Gravlin of the Law Offices of Michael J. Gravlin in Chicago.
