A woman is suing Manor Care of Oaklawn over claims of negligence and wrongful death in a dispute surrounding her sister’s care.

Plaintiff Nancy Carson, administrator of the estate of the late Jeane Golden, filed suit Aug. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division, against ManorCare of Oaklawn (West) Illinois LLC, doing business as Manor Care of Oaklawn. The claims include allegations of abuse and neglect leading to Golden’s death.

According to the complaint, Golden was admitted to ManorCare on Sept. 19, 2013, allegedly with a known high risk for the deterioration of pressure ulcers. The suit claims her pressure ulcers worsened while under the defendant’s care, causing her to suffer pain, disfigurement, overall deterioration of her mental and physical health, and additional medical costs. The wrongful death claim is sustained on behalf of her surviving relatives, who suffered loss of companionship, grief and sorrow.

Attorney Matthew K. Henry of the Chicago firm the Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates P.C. is representing Carson in the lawsuit and is seeking damages of more than $50,000 and litigation costs.
