A Cook County woman is suing a nursing home under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act in a dispute concerning her brother’s death.

Ruthie George, administrator of the estate of the late Clarence George, filed a lawsuit Aug. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Forest Edge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, doing business as Bria Health Services of Forest Edge, alleging neglect.

According to the complaint, Clarence George was admitted to Bria, at 8001 S. Western Ave., Chicago, in 2013 with a known high risk of breathing difficulties. On Dec. 13, 2013, George choked on his food, causing him to asphyxiate and subsequently die, the suit says.

The lawsuit states Bria and its employees failed to provide appropriate care and supervision for George, and his death is a result of their abuse and neglect.

Ruthie George seeks a jury trial, more than $50,000 in damages, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorneys Matthew K. Henry of the Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-008941.
