Man sues city of Chicago following construction accident, claiming negligence

Construction

A Northlake man is suing the city of Chicago following a construction work site accident in which he allegedly sustained injuries.

Luis Salgado Jr. filed a complaint Aug. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against the city of Chicago, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 11, 2014, while employed by G&V Construction Co. working at a job site owned and operated by the city at the intersection of East 98th Street and South Escanaba Avenue, Salgado was working near 48-inch diameter piping, when the piping, which was not properly secured, shifted and pinned him. The complaint states that the city was negligent in its failure to maintain a safe work environment, among other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result of the accident, the complaint states, Salgado suffered severe and permanent injuries, pain and mental anguish, loss of normal life, loss of earning capacity, disability and disfigurement, and has incurred medical expenses.

Salgado seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus court costs.

He is represented by Stephan D. Blandin and Michael E. Holden of Romanucci & Blandin, LLC in Chicago.
