Woman sues nursing home over claims of not following her doctor's orders for medication

7209

A woman is suing Providence Palos Heights nursing home, claiming several violations under the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

Melody Kee filed suit Sept. 2 against Providence Palos Heights LLC, Rest Haven Illiana Christian Convalescent Home, Providence Operations LLC, and Providence Management and Development Co. Inc. in the Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division.

The plaintiff alleges that during her stay at Providence Palos Heights between Sept. 13 and Sept. 18, 2013, she was given the wrong dose of the medication Coumadin. The claim states that Kee’s physician had prescribed 1 milligram of Coumadin to begin on Sept. 15, but instead she received 5 milligrams daily beginning on Sept. 13. The suit further claims the defendants did not inform her doctor of the change in the dose of her medication. As a result, she allegedly suffered from a hematoma, which required multiple subsequent surgeries.

Attorney Todd P. Klein of the Chicago law firm Gregorio Marco is representing the plaintiff, who is seeking a jury trial and damages as determined by the court, including compensation for her injuries and court and attorney’s fees.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015-L-009049.
