Woman sues Kindred Hospital Chicago-North over malpractice allegations

Markham 0071

A patient is suing over malpractice allegations after her intravenous tube was dislodged by a member of a hospital staff.

Eddie D. Edwards Jr., as the guardian of Beverly L. Edwards, has filed suit on Sept. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division against THC-Chicago Inc., doing business as Kindred Hospital Chicago-North.

According to the complaint, Mitchell was admitted into Kindred Hospital on Sept. 24, 2010, with a percutaneous endocopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube in her. All concerned allegedly knew she needed constant care for her PEG tube, which was in functioning order upon her admission into said hospital.

Between the dates of Jan. 15 to Jan. 18, 2010, various staff members named in the suit were all responsible for maintaining said tube, just before the plaintiff was released on Jan. 18 and transferred to Weiss Memorial Hospital. At some point during the named dates, the PEG tube was dislodged/displaced, according to the complaint.

The plaintiff is suing for various forms of negligence for which she claims to have suffered damages of a personal and pecuniary nature. She also has a statement of alleged malpractice action signed by a medical professional to back up her claims.

She is suing for damages in excess of $50,000.

The plaintiff is being represented by J. Matthew Dudley of Dudley & Lake LLC of Libertyville.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015-L-009348.
