A Cook County man is suing Sawtooth Restaurant on allegations of assault and battery in a 2013 confrontation which allegedly left him with a broken wrist and medical expenses.

Paul White brought a lawsuit against Sawtooth Restaurant LLC, doing business as Sawtooth Restaurant and Lounge, on Sept. 21 in Cook County Circuit Court, charging assault and battery in January 2013.

The suit states that employees of the establishment at 1350 W. Randolph Street in Chicago physically removed White from the premises while he was attempting to retrieve his coat from the coat check on Jan. 1, 2013, after a date with his girlfriend “for the purpose of consuming food, liquid libations and socializing.”

White claims that the Sawtooth Restaurant and Lounge employee was acting within the scope of his employment when he allegedly “beat, bruised, wounded and ill-treated” the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the action was performed intentionally, maliciously, without cause for provocation, and in an overly aggressive manner. The plaintiff claims a fractured wrist, disfigurement, hindrance from performing everyday duties and lost financial gains from his injury.

White charges the defendant with willful assault and battery. The plaintiff requests judgment of more than $50,000 plus attorney’s fees and costs. He is represented by Jeffrey Deutschman of Deutschman & Associates in Chicago.
