A woman is suing Norwood Crossing, a long-term nursing care facility in Chicago, over claims of negligence leading to her deceased husband's worsening condition.

Barbara Mewes, as independent executor of the estate of deceased Fred Mewes, filed a complaint Sept. 24 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division against Norwood Crossing Association, doing business as Norwood Crossing, alleging violations of the Nursing Home Care Act and violations of the Survival Act.

On Oct. 11, 2013, the complaint states, Fred Mewes was admitted to Norwood, after which he suffered from multiple falls resulting in injuries, including the deterioration of his overall mental and physical condition. He also suffered from the development and worsening of pressure ulcers.

The complaint states that Norwood was negligent in failing to implement an up-to-date resident care plan for Fred Mewes, failing to adequately and appropriately train staff, failing to timely respond to falls and worsening ulcers, failing to position and reposition Fred Mewes to prevent worsening ulcers, and other negligent acts or omissions. He died Nov. 29, 2013.

Mewes seeks a judgment of more than $50,000 plus attorney fees and court costs.

She is represented by Marc S. Weissman of the Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates in Chicago.
