Patient sues Palos Heights hospital, alleging consumer fraud

Money scales of justice

A Cook County woman is suing a Palos Heights hospital, alleging consumer fraud.

Terri Nanfeldt filed a lawsuit Sept. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights.

According to the lawsuit, on Dec. 3, 2014, Nanfeldt was billed $24,526.05 after checking in to the emergency room of Palos Community Hospital. The complaint alleges uninsured patients are charged more than the reasonable value for the services they receive because they don’t have health insurance. Thus, the suit says, the hospital engages in discriminatory pricing by charging patients different prices for similar services based on their insurance status.

Nanfeldt seeks a jury trial and more than $50,000 in damages. She is represented by attorneys Daniel Lynch and James L. Thompson of Lynch Stern Thompson in Chicago, Oren S. Giskan of Giskan Solotoroff Anderson & Stewart in New York, and Barry Kramer of The Law Offices of Barry Kramer in Las Vegas.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009586.
