A Cook County woman is suing a medical practice for the alleged painful side effects of a dermatological procedure.

Nadia Hasan filed a lawsuit Sept. 30 in Cook County Circuit Court against Cellular Intelligence, and a licensed esthetician identified as Norma, citing consumer fraud and negligence.

The suit claims Hasan sought treatment from the defendant for light acne on her back on July 20. According to the complaint, Norma told Hasan she would be performing an Intense-Pulsed Light (IPL) Photo Facial procedure. The plaintiff was not informed of the treatment’s risks, the suit says.

After allegedly complaining to the defendants about burning sensations and pain during and after the treatment, they allegedly told her that was normal and tried to sell her more treatments. When the plaintiff later sought medical treatment, she allegedly discovered she had 146 second-degree burns on her back, which the suit claims are a result of the IPL treatment.

Hasan is seeking a jury trial and is suing for lost income, medical costs, litigation expenses and punitive damages in an amount greater than $50,000. She is being represented by attorney John C. Ellis of Ellis Legal in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009931.
