A Cook County woman is suing an Oak Lawn nursing home, alleging negligence in her 73-year-old mother's death.

Sharon C. Gayles, independent administrator of the estate of Fannie Mae Stewart, filed a lawsuit Sept. 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Manor Care of Oak Lawn (East) Illinois and Oak Lawn Respiratory & Rehabilitation Center.

According to the complaint, Stewart was a resident of Manor Care when she fell and suffered injuries Sept. 19, 2013, that sent her to the hospital. The suit says the facility was negligent in supervising Stewart and keeping her environment free of hazards and also failed to provide timely treatment once she was injured.

Stewart’s injuries, the suit says, contributed to her death Jan. 14, 2014.

Gayles seeks more than $50,000 in damages, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorney Jason B. Rosenthal of the Law Offices of Jason B. Rosenthal of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009101.
