A Cook County woman is suing a hospital and a nursing facility, alleging negligence in her mother’s death.

Debra Perry, independent administrator of the estate of Alice Potter, filed a lawsuit Sept. 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Northwestern Memorial Hospital Inc. and Lakewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2014, Potter was admitted to Northwestern Memorial in Chicago where she developed pressure ulcers on her sacrum that worsened, causing her overall mental and physical condition to deteriorate.

The suit alleges the defendants’ staff members failed to follow procedures and doctor’s orders related to the prevention of skin breakdown and did not provide appropriate supervision and assistance to prevent Potter's injuries.

Alice Potter died Nov. 9, 2014.

Perry seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Kelly Sabo Gaden of the Law Offices of Stephen J. Malman & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009092.
