CHICAGO — The estate of a Calumet City woman is suing the community's fire department, alleging its emergency medical technicians' actions resulted in her death.
Sally Gray, administrator of the estate of Amanda Gray, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Cook County against the Calumet City Fire Department on Oct. 7, alleging paramedics from the department failed to properly intubate Amanda Gray and as a result she eventually died because of their actions.
The suit said that the fire department was called to a residence in Calumet City on Oct. 12, 2014 because Amanda Gray was having trouble breathing. When she went into respiratory arrest, paramedics allegedly misplaced the trachea tube into her stomach while trying to intubate her. This mistake allegedly contributed to her death 10 days later, according to the suit.
Amanda Gray's estate is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. It is represented by Thomas Law in Chicago.
