A Cook County man is suing a medical practice and a doctor, alleging malpractice in a spinal procedure.

Brian Fahey filed a lawsuit Oct. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Parkview Orthopaedic Group, also known as Parkview Musculoskeletal Institute, and Dr. Anis Mekhail.

The complaint states the defendants are to blame for injuries Fahey suffered during a May 26, 2009, spinal procedure performed by Mekhail at Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center.

During the operation, the suit says, Fahey’s colon and rectum were punctured, causing rectosigmoid fistula and a rectocutaneous fistula. These conditions caused Fahey, who had initially seen Mekhail for back pain, to experience respiratory distress, hypoxemia and other symptoms, the lawsuit states.

Fahey seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Terence J. Mahoney of Neville & Mahoney in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010610.
