An Elgin mother and father are suing a Chicago events management firm, alleging injuries their minor son suffered during a storm at the Prairie Fest annual picnic.
Joseph and Julie Remack filed a lawsuit Aug. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of their son, Jacob Remack, against CP OPCO doing business as Classic Party Rentals, and Chicago Running and Special Events Management, also known as Chicago Special Events Management, Special Events Management and Chicago Events.
According to the complaint, on Aug. 2, while the plaintiffs attended the Prairie Fest a severe thunderstorm with 60 m.p.h. winds uprooted tent moorings, injuring their son. The suit says the event planners should have known the tents were unsafe during a severe storm, as the National Weather Service had warned residents to go inside a building on the lowest floor.
The Remacks seek damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. They are represented by attorney Robert J. Friend of Robert J. Friend & Associates in Riverwoods.
