CHICAGO – A Melrose Park man is suing two urologists and their Westchester practice, alleging they misdiagnosed a kidney stone as prostatitis, and gave him medicine that caused his ankle tendons to tear.
Frank A. Staggs filed a lawsuit Dec. 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Robert S. Kaplinsky, Dr. David A. Rebuck and UroPartners LLC in Westchester, alleging medical negligence and malpractice.
According to the complaint, Rebuck and Kaplinsky diagnosed Staggs, 37, with prostatitis without diagnostic testing and prescribed him with the antibiotic Ciprofloxacin, despite no evidence of bacterial growth in his blood.
While taking Ciprofloxacin, the suit says, Staggs developed complications, including ankle pain and torn tendons in both ankles but was never informed of the medicine’s risk. Staggs says he has been relying on a cane for mobility and has been unable to work since Feb. 10.
Staggs seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000, including lost wages. He is represented by attorney Konrad Sherinian of The Law Offices of Konrad Sherinian LLC in Naperville.
