Patient blames Mohs Surgery and Dermatology for infection

Steroid injection

CHICAGO – A Cook County man is suing his dermatologist and his practice, alleging their mistakes have left him permanently injured.

Scott Goldstein and Alyse Goldstein filed a lawsuit Dec. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Suleman J. Bangash DOSC, doing business as Mohs Surgery and Dermatology Center, and Dr. Suleman J. Bangash and Kerry Daniels, individually and as agents of Bangash DOSC, alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, Scott Goldstein received treatment from the defendants Jan. 8, 2014, but was hospitalized five days later, suffering from septic shock, organ failure and an MRSA (antibacterial resistant) infection. The suit says Bangash failed to supervise Daniels, his assistant, as she administered a steroid injection, which led to Goldstein's subsequent infection and complications.

Goldstein seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. He is represented by attorney Gregory J. Olmstead of The Deratany Firm in Chicago.
