CHICAGO – A Matteson, Illinois woman is suing a local hospital for injuries suffered after she allegedly fell on an icy walkway at the facility's parking garage.

Emma Spurlin filed a lawsuit on Jan. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against Rush University Medical Center, alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, Spurlin was headed toward the hospital’s parking garage on Jan. 10, 2014 when she allegedly slipped on an accumulation of ice on the sidewalk. Although she sought treatment at the hospital’s emergency room, the suit alleges that Spurlin’s injuries were so severe they required back surgery and ongoing physical therapy.

Spurlin seeks  a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus litigation costs. She is represented by Bruggeman Hurst & Associates P.C. in Chicago.
