Woman claims negligence by doctor, hospital

7209

CHICAGO — A woman is suing a hospital and doctor, claiming she suffered a perforated viscus during a colectomy, and that medical personnel then failed to discover the cause of abdominal pain and the perforated viscus.

Laleen Doerrer is suing Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Dr. Amy L. Halverson and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, citing alleged negligence that resulted in an injury and required surgical repair.

Doerrer sued on March 2 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants were negligent when providing medical treatment on Oct. 7, 2009, when she claims her viscus was perforated, and then were allegedly negligent in not properly discovering the cause of abdominal pain.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for a dollar amount to satisfy the jurisdictional limit of the court plus costs of suit. She is represented by Martin J. Lucas and Jeffrey S. Jordan of O'Connor & Nakos, Ltd. in Chicago.
