Nursing home, hospital sued in wrongful death allegation

CHICAGO — The independent administrator of a deceased woman's estate has filed a wrongful death suit against a nursing home and hospital.

Verlinda Penix, administrator of the estate of Elease Sanders, filed suit on Jan. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against Forest Edge Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center LLC, doing business as BRIA Health Services LLC, Jackson Park Health Foundation, doing business as Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, citing allegations of negligence and wrongful death.

Penix alleges that in 2014, Sanders suffered the development and deterioration of pressure sores that worsened until her death. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to perform necessary care and treatment to avoid a high-risk condition in a timely manner.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for an amount in excess of $50,000 plus attorney's fees and the costs of suit.. She is represented by Andrew J. Thut of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
