Man accuses doctor of negligence after colonoscopy

Medical records

CHICAGO – A man is suing a gastroenterologist alleging that the doctor knowingly failed to properly evaluate and supervise his medical condition.

Michael Marcello filed a complaint on Jan. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Joseph Lagattuta and Glenoaks G.I., citing negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 22, 2014, Lagattuta performed a colonoscopy and perforated the plaintiff's colon and bladder during the procedure. The plaintiff alleges that he reported pain and other systems to Lagattuta, but was told the symptoms were normal. The suit states he was later diagnosed with colo-vessical fistula on Feb. 10, 2014 by a different doctor and needed surgery to repair it.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to examine and diagnose his condition in a timely manner and its complications.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for a sum in excess of the jurisdictional court limits plus costs of suit. He is represented by John J. Pappas Sr. of Pappas & Healy LLC in Chicago.
