Woman sues property owner, alleges negligence caused mother's death

CHICAGO – A woman is suing a property owner over allegations of negligence after a fire caused the death of her mother.

Sandra Gonzalez, as special administrator of the estate of Juana Negrete, filed a complaint on Jan. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against Carlos Negrete, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 23, 2014, her decedent, Juana Negrete, suffered serious injuries due to a fire at the property where she resided, which led to her death. The plaintiff holds Carlos Negrete, the property owner and Juana Negrete's son, responsible because he allegedly allowed the premises to remain in an unreasonably dangerous condition, failed to inspect it and maintain it and other counts.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for an amount in excess of the jurisdictional limits plus costs of suit. She is represented by Alfred S. Vano of The Santilli Law Group LTD in Chicago.
