CHICAGO – A woman is suing two nursing care families and members of their nursing staff over allegations of wrongful death.

Sandra Semmes, as independent executor of the estate of Robert Semmes, filed a complaint on March 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against Washington and Jane Smith Community-Beverly, doing business as Smith Village; The Washington and Jane Smith Home, doing business as Smith Senior Living; Yahaira Ramirez, R.N.; and Katrice Partee, LPN, citing negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 7, 2014, a member of the defendants' nursing staff allegedly administered an improper Lovenox injection to Robert Semmes, resulting in complications that contributed his death. The suit states Robert Semmes was admitted to Christ Hospital on March 7, 2014, with an actively bleeding abdominal wall hematoma, which resulted in hypovolemic shock, and died from these complications on March 24, 2014.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for an amount of more than $50,000, plus attorney's fees and the costs of suit. She is represented by Daniel A. Goldfaden and Jordan S. Powell of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
