Family blames nursing facility for relative's death

Medical malpractice 07

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing a Chicago nursing and rehabilitation facility, alleging negligence caused a relative's death.

Alice Jackson, as administrator for the estate of Marie Brown, filed a lawsuit April 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against Alden Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Inc., The Alden Group Ltd., Alden Management Services Inc., and registered nurse Raven Thompson, alleging they knowingly violated the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act in failing to provide care and treatment services.

According to the complaint, between Jan. 16-April 18, 2014, Brown suffered numerous falls resulting a left hip fracture. The suit says her condition deteriorated until the time of her death Dec. 17, 2014.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to assess Brown's condition and failed to provide the required supervision to prevent her from falling and suffering injuries.

Alice Jackson seeks a trial by jury, more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs of suit. She is represented by attorneys Colleen Mixan Mikaitis and Susan L. Novosad of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
