Patient alleges clinic allowed unlicensed doctor to provide psychiatric aid

Medical malpractice 08

CHICAGO — A patient is suing a Chicago clinic, alleging it allowed an unauthorized doctor to provide psychiatric care to patients.

Sophia Logothetis filed a lawsuit April 27, in the Cook County Circuit Court against Clarity Clinic LLC, alleging negligence in allowing an unlicensed individual to provide unauthorized psychiatric care to patients.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 10, 2015, Logothetis came to Clarity Clinic to receive mental health care services. The suit says Dr. Julian Lopez-Garcia, who was was not a mental health care professional, treated her through January 2016.

As a direct and proximate result of defendant's neglect and omissions, the lawsuit states, Logothetis has suffered injury, including past and future emotional sufferings and distress. The plaintiff alleges Clarity Clinic failed to investigate the educational and professional background of Lopez-Garcia, allowed an unlicensed professional to provide mental health services and represented him as licensed to provide mental health services.

Logothetis seeks a trial by jury and judgment in excess of the jurisdictional limits of the court, plus all legal costs. She is represented by Kenneth A. Hoffman of Mitchell Hoffman & Wolf LLC in Chicago.
