Woman files malpractice suit after allegedly faulty knee replacement surgery

CHICAGO – A woman alleges that a knee replacement was negligently performed and is seeking damages.

Kathleen Gerhardt filed a complaint on May 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Parkview Muskuloskeletal Institute, Parkview Orthopedic Group SC and Dr. Henry Fuentes alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on or about April 26, 2006, the defendants negligently performed a total knee replacement on her right knee. As a direct and proximate result, she alleges she has suffered significant pain, hardship, mental anguish and physical injury that will require ongoing medical care.

The plaintiff holds Parkview Muskuloskeletal Institute, Parkview Orthopedic Group SC and Dr. Henry Fuentes responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to appropriately cement her knee replacement, failed to appreciate that post-operative X-rays showed inadequate cement on the medial side of her right knee and that she was at increased risk, failed to appropriately recognize the treat of loosening the tribal component during post-operative period and failed to consider revision surgery in a timely manner.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against each defendant in an amount of more than $100,000. She is represented by Mark P. Munninghoff of Munday & Nathan in Chicago.
