Family blames nursing home, staff for relative's death

Medical malpractice 08

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing a number of health care providers, alleging their negligence resulted in the death of a patient.

Dionne Linton as independent administrator with the will annexed of the estate of William Appling, filed a lawsuit March 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Prairie Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center LLC in Chicago Heights, Extended Care Consulting LLC, nurse Carolyn Hampton, Alprofel TIU, RPT, Anna Ludvigsen and registered nurse Felicia Smith, alleging violation of the Illinois Wrongful Death Act in failing to provide professional and adequate care.

According to the complaint, between May 3-Nov. 4, 2014, William Appling sustained severe injuries to his body as a result of falling down multiple times at the Chicago Heights facility, which ultimately resulted in his death Nov. 4.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly evaluate Appling's condition and failed to provide him with proper care while he was in their facility.

Linton seeks judgment in an amount that will adequately compensate her for all damages. She is represented by attorneys Paul D. Richter and Caitlin K. Finnegan of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
