Daughter blames medical provider for mother's death

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing a group of health care providers, alleging their negligence caused the death of her mother.

Gloria Hopkins, independent administrator of the estate of Burnett Spearman, filed a lawsuit May 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Manor Care of Homewood LLC, Glenshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre Ltd., St. James Hospital and Health Centers and Advocate South Suburban Hospital, alleging negligence in failing to to provide proper medical care to Spearman.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 23, 2014, Spearman  died as a result of severe complications from an ulcer that developed from a pressure wound July 22, 2014. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to access the severity of plaintiff's wounds and failed to provide adequate medical assistance while she was under the care of the defendants.

Hopkins seeks judgment in such amount to adequately compensate her. She is represented by attorney Michael F. Sullivan of Sukhman Yagoda in Chicago.
