CHICAGO — An employee is suing a Cook County business, alleging the defendant retaliated against him for filing for compensation benefits.

Engelbert Pizano filed a lawsuit May 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against IKO Midwest Inc. alleging failure to uphold Americans with Disabilities Act regulations, negligence, retaliation, and violation of workers compensation acts.

According to the complaint, sometime in 2007, Pizano fell off a ladder at work and injured his hip. The lawsuit says Pizano again injured himself May 13, 2009. The suit says even though the plaintiff suffered injuries while doing his duties at work he was denied his benefits claim and, after complaining about the denial, was fired from his job May 31, 2011.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant refused to accommodate his disability and retaliated against him when he hired a worker's compensation attorney.

Pizano seeks compensatory damages, exemplary damages, court costs and any further relief the court sees fit. He is represented by attorneys David L. Lee and Jennifer C. Weiss of the Law Offices of David L. Lee in Chicago.
