Patient blames Stroger Hospital, doctors for medical woes

CHICAGO — A patient is suing John Stroger Hospital and numerous physicians, alleging their negligence caused her to suffer surgical complications.

Lesa Chapman filed a complaint June 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Roman Slyvka, the county of Cook, doing business as John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, Dr. Alexander J. Sauper, Dr. Humberto Deleon, Dr. German Giese, Dr. Michael Kolczynski, Dr. David Shersher, Dr. Tanyu Jelev, Daniel Falco Do, Dr. Karjala Chakkaravarthy, Dr. Oluseyi Fadayomi, Dr. Tasha Hughes, Dr. Audrey Herbert, Dr.  Shari Schabowski, and Dr.  Juan Schmukler, alleging negligence in that insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries to the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, between June 3-5, 2014, Chapman was diagnosed with several complications after surgery for a ventral hernia repair at Stroger. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to exercise care while inserting the breathing tube to Chapman prior to surgery.

The suit says the plaintiff suffered extreme pain and agony, severe emotional distress, a chronic respiratory infection and a heart condition.

Chapman seeks judgment of more than $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorneys Theodore A. Woerthwein, John Miller, Ashley Hanlon, David Bowman and Matthew Hector of Woerthwein & Miller in Chicago.
