Family member blames Evanston nursing care facility for relative's death

Medical malpractice 01

CHICAGO — A family member is suing an Evanston nursing care facility, alleging negligence led to injuries and death.

Maria E. Van Bork as independent executor of the estate of Berthold A. Van Bork, filed a lawsuit June 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against   Alden Estates of Evanston Inc., doing business as Alden Estates of Evanston, The Alden Group, Ltd. and Alden Management Services, Inc., alleging negligence in that insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

According to the complaint, Berthold Van Bork, a resident at Alden Estates Aug. 19-Sept. 20, 2014, experienced physical pain due to the development of pressure sores, malnutrition and dehydration, which led to the deterioration of his health, including the loss of 32 pounds. He died Oct. 29, 2014. The plaintiff alleges the defendants neglected their duty to Van Bork by failing to provide adequate supervision and failed to make sure all of his needs were well taken care of when he was at their facility.

Maria Van Bork seeks judgment of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorneys Margaret Battersby Black and Daisy Ayllon of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
