University of Chicago Medical Center, et al. accused of negligence

Medical malpractice 09

CHICAGO – An estate administrator alleges negligent care after a surgery caused the death of her decedent.

Shamona P. Nichols, individually and as independent administrator of the estate of Sarah A. Crayton, filed a complaint in May Cook County Circuit Court against The University of Chicago Medical Center, The University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System, The University of Chicago Medicine, University of Chicago Medicine Care Network Affiliated Physicians LLC, et al. alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Crayton.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between July 7, 2014, and her death on July 12, 2014, Crayton was admitted and underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure, which caused complications including internal bleeding and generally deteriorated her health, resulting in her death. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to evaluate Crayton's health after the procedure and provide adequate medical attention to her upon the first signs of internal bleeding.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by James E. Coogan of Dwyer & Coogan PC in Chicago.
