Man alleges negligence caused death of decedent after surgery

Medical malpractice 02

CHICAGO – An administrator alleges negligence during a surgery contributed or caused the death of his decedent.

Gerald Wilson, independent administrator of the estate of Markelia Boyd, filed a complaint on June 1 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate North Side Health Network, doing business as Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center; Advocate Health and Hospitals Corp., doing business as Advocate Medical Group; Dr. Joaquin Estrada; Dr. Clifton Clarke; and Dr. Omran Embia alleging wrongful death and negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 17, 2014, Markelia Boyd underwent a surgery that introduced a lot of complications, including anastomotic leak, which contributed or caused her death on July 20, 2014. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly evaluate Boyd's condition after her surgery and provide proper medical attention to her from the first signs of symptoms.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $50,000. He is represented by Nicholas T. Motherway of Motherway & Napleton LLP in Chicago.
