CHICAGO — A patient is suing Riveredge Hospital and Universal Health Services, alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Jerdie Martin filed a complaint on June 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to make certain precautions to prevent violence among their patient.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 28, 2014, he was attacked by another patient and was punched several times, causing physical injuries. The plaintiff holds Riveredge Hospital and Universal Health Services responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide adequate supervision at all times to prevent their psychiatric patient from engaging others.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $100,000 plus court costs. He is represented by Jessica Oefelein of Lagattuta DeGrazia & Oefelein, LLC in Schaumburg.
