CHICAGO — A grandmother is suing the Board of Education of the City of Chicago, Chicago Public School District #299, individually and doing business as Chicago Public Schools, and Public Building Commission of Chicago, alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Steluta Sokarda as guardian and next friend of C.K., a minor, filed a complaint on June 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to properly maintain premises in such a way as to avoid injuries.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 30, 2015, C.K. sustained serious physical injuries due to a carbon monoxide gas leak. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to provide adequate warning regarding the unsafe and dangerous condition existing in the premises.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $50,000 plus court cost. She is represented by Donald J. Nolan and Thomas P. Routh of Nolan Law Group in Chicago and Gordon S. Johnson of Johnson Law Office in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
