Emergency response fell short, suit alleges

Law money 07

CHICAGO — An administrator of a man's estate is suing the Village of Antioch, a municipal corporation, claiming that insufficient emergency response led to the man's death.

Janet Snoddy-Kawa, individually and as independent administrator of the estate of Jeffrey Kawa, filed a complaint on July 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Village of Antioch, alleging slow emergency response, failure to bring proper equipment and other omissions when Jeffrey Kawa had a medical emergency.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in July 2015, Jeffrey Kawa became ill and needed immediate medical attention and a defibrillator. The plaintiff holds the Village of Antioch responsible for alleged shortcomings in response that the suit says led to injuries that resulted in Jeffrey Kawa's death.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $50,000. She is represented by John Macinerney of Hofeld and Schaffner in Chicago.
