Bryn Mawr Care accused of waiting 18 days to notify family of man's death

CHICAGO — A brother of a deceased man is suing Bryn Mawr Care Inc., a nursing home, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, breach of contract and statutory fraud for allegedly waiting 18 days to notify the man's family of his death. 

Kenneth Edwards, brother of Charles Sumner Edwards Jr., filed a complaint on Dec. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against Bryn Mawr Care, alleging the nursing facility failed to notify the family of the death of Charles Sumner Edwards Jr. until the family attempted to initiate contact 18 days after his death.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he suffered emotional damage from not being timely informed of his brother's death. 

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $30,000, plus court costs. He is represented by Robert I. Briskman of Briskman Briskman & Greenberg in Chicago.
