CHICAGO — A North Carolina company is suing Michael Zarkin, an Illinois resident, for alleged breach of contract after he purportedly failed to pay the plaintiff $146,800 for a baseball card he had bid on during an online auction.

Beckett Auctions LLC, which does business as Goodwin & Co., filed a lawsuit on March 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois alleging the defendant failed to pay the full bid amount after winning a Roberto Clemente rookie card at an auction.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges it sustained financial damages in 2016 from not being paid the winning bid amount for the card. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly breaching his agreement by failing to pay the full bid amount within 14 days.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual, economic and consequential damages, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. The company is represented by R. Timothy Novel of Aronberg Goldgehn Davis & Garmisa LLC in Chicago.
