Woman claims Presence Mercy failed to prevent her bedsores after heart surgery

CHICAGO — A patient is suing Presence Mercy Medical Center, alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Patricia Dixon filed a complaint on May 23 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the hospital failed to provide proper medical care to her after a heart surgery in August 2015.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she experienced pain from pressure sores she developed while recovering from triple bypass surgery at the hospital. The plaintiff said Presence Mercy Medical Center rand its staff allegedly failed to provide adequate supervision and assistance to the plaintiff to prevent the development of pressure sores.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Susan Novosad and Michael L. Shanahan of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
