CHICAGO — A guardian is suing New Horizon Center for Children and Adults with Developmental Disabilities and Autism, alleging the facility failed to properly supervise a student at the school.
Velia Vazquez, as guardian of a female student, filed a complaint on May 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against the school, located on West Forest Preserve Avenue in Chicago, alleging it failed to keep Karina Becerra from ingesting foreign objects while in its care.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Becerra suffered severe injury from ingesting four rubber gloves. The plaintiff holds New Horizon responsible because it allegedly failed to provide adequate supervision to Karina Becerra and was aware she was at risk of ingesting foreign objects.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds $50,000 plus court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Eric J. Parker of Stotts & Baird Chartered in Chicago.
