Former employee accuses Abbott Laboratories of violating Family and Medical Leave Act

Wrongful term 09

CHICAGO — A former employee is suing his employer, Abbott Laboratories, for alleged violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Henry Beverly filed a complaint on July 31 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, alleging the defendant interfered with his rights to protected leave under the FMLA.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he was improperly terminated for taking leave to care for his wife, who was allegedly suffering from depression, after one of her family members died. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly assuring him his absence was not a problem, but then allegedly terminated his employment upon his return to work.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay, compensatory damages, punitive damages, injunctive relief, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by the Law Offices of Ruth I. Major P.C. in Chicago.
