CORBOY & DEMETRIO: Corboy & Demetrio files Lawsuit against Lyft in fatal Chicago crash

Lawsuit

Corboy & Demetrio issued the following announcement on June 22.

Corboy & Demetrio has filed a lawsuit against the rideshare company Lyft, its driver, Elizabeth Renter, 32, of Lena, Illinois, and Travis Anderson, 25, of Chicago, who struck Renter’s Lyft car, for injuries suffered by Abraham Vucekovich, 31, of Chicago.

On Friday, June 8, 2018, at about 3:50 a.m., Anderson was southbound on Humboldt Boulevard while Renter, who was driving on a Lyft Pool app, was northbound.

Renter had two fare-paying passengers - Vucekovich and a female. Anderson crossed the centerline and struck Renter head on. Both drivers were cited for impaired driving: Anderson for alcohol and Renter for drugs. The female died due to her injuries.

“When the public hires a ride sharing car, such as Lyft, it has a right to expect that the driver is not impaired for any reason,” said Corboy & Demetrio Partner Francis Patrick Murphy who represents Vucekovich. “We expect and demand that we get to our destination safely,” Murphy added.

Mr. Vucekovich suffered serious head injuries and a concussion. The lawsuit, filed in Cook Co. Circuit Court on June 11, 2018, seeks money damages in excess of $50,000.00.
