In the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, Darien Harris, represented by Loevy & Loevy, has filed a lawsuit against the City of Chicago and several Chicago Police Officers including Devinn Jones, Isaac Lambert, Constance Besteda, William Meador, Marc Delfavero, Henry Barsch, Matthew Weber and unknown officers. The case is identified as 1:24-cv-03215 and was filed on April 22nd, 2024.

Harris alleges that due to the misconduct of the defendants he was wrongfully convicted for the murder of Ronald Moore. He asserts that his conviction was primarily based on the testimony of a legally blind eyewitness and accuses the police officers of fabricating evidence and withholding exculpatory evidence. Harris spent more than twelve years in prison before his convictions were vacated on December 5th, 2023.

The plaintiff claims that his wrongful arrest and false imprisonment are part of systemic police misconduct at Area Two Police Headquarters where officers were trained to fabricate evidence. He also accuses command personnel in the Chicago Police Department (CPD), successive Superintendents of Police and several Mayors of concealing their knowledge of ongoing police misconduct.

Harris seeks redress for violation of his constitutional rights and compensation for damages inflicted upon him. He brings this action pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and Illinois law to redress Defendants’ tortious conduct and deprivation under color of law.
