In the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, plaintiff Obeb Adames has filed a lawsuit against Legacy Varin Property Management, LLC. The case ID is 1:24-cv-03478 and it was filed on April 30, 2024. The lawsuit is centered around allegations of national origin-based discrimination and harassment under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title VII.

Adames, represented by his counsel, alleges that he experienced discrimination at his workplace due to his national origin. He claims that he was subjected to different terms and conditions of employment compared to other employees not within his protected class. His employment with the defendant spanned from September 19, 2022 until he was wrongfully terminated on February 2, 2024.

Adames further alleges that after being assigned a new General Manager named Michael Sherry in September 2023, he began experiencing a hostile work environment due to his national origin. Sherry allegedly made derogatory comments about Adames' accent and even asked for a translator or Adames' wife to translate for him.

The plaintiff alleges that this conduct is offensive and deeply insulting to him.  Mr. Adames filed a complaint with the human resources department detailing this behavior. The plaintiff alleges that Mr. Sherry retaliated against him by scheduling him 10 days in a row and denying him any overtime during these days.

The plaintiff seeks redress for the alleged national origin-based discrimination and harassment as well as retaliation under Title VII. He also demands compensation for damages incurred as a result of these actions including wrongful termination.
